Rattles and squeaks are only a problem when you drive a car that is refined. If you drive a car that has a noisy engine, lots of wind noise at high speed and plenty of panel rattles, then most of us grow to accept it. Our X-TYPE is halfway between the two at present: engine noise is negligible, leaving a whining wheel bearing, noisy low profile tyres and an irritating rear-end rattle to echo inside the cabin. We're planning to deal with the wheel bearing soon and will be fitting soundproofing material to hopefully make the interior even quieter. We may even change the tyres or fit smaller 16-inch wheels with larger profile tyres to see if this helps.
