Q I have had a new engine, propshaft and propeller fitted to my 39-footer. Thernboat is now less responsive than before and doesn't turn as easily. The new propellor sits a lot closer to the hull than the old one; should I get a longer propshaft, or just get used to the new setup?rnA The propshaft length would only have a marginal effectrnas long as there is some gap between the prop and outboard bearing. I suspect the new propeller is a different size, possibly smaller or with less pitch. That would account for your symptoms but I cannot say it is the wrong size, it could be the old one was too large.
