Electrical eccentricities

When I try to start the engine, the starter motor makes a struggling sound and sparks come from the engine area.rnThe main fusebox has always tripped out when I start the engine but I was advised not to worry as this was probably some safety start cut out.rnI think my water pump is on its way out too! It's making very unfamiliar sounds and changes from pulsing the water through to it being on constantly, then shoots water out of my shower unit while I'm running the kitchen tap. My poor dog isn't impressed as she sleeps with her bed in the shower tray...
