摘要

The ownerships boat share company collapsed with debts of around £1.8m following the death of its founder Allen Matthews.rnWhile individual owners' shares are not at risk, many syndicates have faced four-figure bills for unpaid boatyard fees. However, there are hopes that a new operation can be set up that will concentrate on the basically sound business of running a narrowboat share management scheme, without any of the other ventures which appear to have brought the company down.rnAfter Allen Matthews' death in February, his friend and executor Joan Lindeman brought in financial advisor Anthony Trueman to unravel the company finances. What he discovered showed that Mr Matthews had been taking money held on deposit for maintenance work and using it for unsuccessful business ventures.
