There's Something A bit depressing about re-restoring a bit of canal that you thought you'd finished. Sometimes it's inevitable, giver the long timescales of restoration projects. But it still feels like taking one step forwards and two steps back. So it was with perhaps not quite my usual enthusiasm that I headed for the Manchester Bolton & Bury Christmas Camp, and a patch of scrub that I last helped to clear in the 1990s. How refreshing, then to come away with an impression that the intervening years haven't been wasted at all, that the Society's made some real strides forward, and that we won't have to clear it again.
