A NEWLY RESTORED length of canal in Wiltshire saw its first boats as an official opening marked the completion of the two miles from Pewsham near Chippenham to Reybridge. The opening, timed to coincide with a Wilts & Berks Canal Trust sponsored walk, was attended by local MP and canal supporter Duncan Hames, who declared himself "amazed by everything that has been achieved" and paid tribute to "the hard work and dedication" of the volunteers. A cruise by VIPs marked the culmination of work by volunteers including channel clearance, towpath raising, rebuilding Double Bridge and repairing spill weirs. It was helped by donations from local businesses and support of landowners.
