It's certainly not a typical canal boat being launched. I'm standing next to a large crane at P&S Marine's base at Cassiobury, Watford, watching the slings being carefully placed around the hull of a brand new widebeam before it is hoisted into the air, swung around through 180 degrees and gently lowered into the marina. From underneath, the sloping sides of the hull are clearly visible, as is the unusual square stern, the rather striking design on the bows, and the giveaway... the words '2012 Games Canal Service' along the side of the hull. This is the first of a fleet of 12 passenger boats designed to transport some 200,000 people along the Lee Navigation to and from this summer's Olympics.
