Why is the creation of the Canal & River Trust and the Funding Agreement so important to you? Canals are one of the finest examples of our industrial heritage. As many of your readers will know, I am a life-long canal enthusiast; I caught my first fish in the waters of the Kennet & Avon, and I followed and supported its rebirth. It is fair to say that, without the support from local communities in protecting our canals, we would not be able to use them as we do today. That's why I believe that the Canal & River Trust (CRT) will promote the right values for our waterways, giving communities a greater say in how they are managed.
