No signal, no information and no use

Back near the end of last year we arrived in London on the Grand Union Canal ready to spend the winter months pottering around and gradually drifting northwards into the Midlands. It was a plan; as much as there are plans in boating. Now we all know that winter means stoppages and not just planned ones but the unplanned, too, when locks break or heavy rain shuts towpaths. So, bearing in mind my plan, I signed up for the Canal & River Trust's stoppages email alerts.
