The Westmoreland Showground at Crooklands, on the abandoned northern reaches of the Lancaster Canal, has been chosen by IWA as the site for next year's National Trailboat Festival. The event will support the Lancaster Canal Trust's campaign to reopen the northern reaches from Tewitfield to Kendal, which were cut off from the rest of the canal when the M6 motorway was built in the 1960s. It will be based on an isolated navigable length of canal from Crooklands to Stainton, which is in the process of being extended by volunteer restoration work at Sellet.
