The Residential Boat Owners Association has joined with TV Licensing in reminding liveaboard boaters that they need a licence to watch television while afloat. TV Licensing said that "By law, residential boat owners need a TV licence to watch live television, or catch up TV on BBC iPlayer", and that this applied "no matter what device is used, how the programmes are received, or whether the boat is cruising or moored". The organisation's spokesperson said that with an increasing number of people for whom a boat is their only home "lt is important boat owners understand the same rules apply when it comes to watching TV". Anyone caught without a licence faced a fine of up to £1,000, she added.
