We set off to cruise through the Clayden flight of locks on the Oxford Canal. This flight regularly has issues with lack of water and sometimes restricts the times you can use the lock. There have also been a number of stoppages this summer, thankfully not for long periods of time. The locks have stiff paddles and heavy gates but there were quite a few other boats about when we were cruising, so there were often plenty of people working the locks at a time. I have my ratchet windlass, which is great when paddles are stiff and difficult. I am getting better at heavy gates.
