With lockdown easing, we have started our spring/summer cruising. Our boat has been blacked and our Boat Safety certificate passed, we were free to start our cruising. We started on the Ashby Canal. This is mainly a very rural canal with few urban areas, apart from Hinckley. There are not many shops or facilities and there are long stretches of the canal that are very quiet. Stoke Golding is a small village with two great farm shops. Market Bosworth is a small town with some shops and a post office. It is definitely worth the slightly long walk uphill from the canal, if you are feeling energetic. Sadly, lockdown is keeping some attractions closed including The Battlefield Line Steam railway line that runs from Shenton to Shackerstone via Market Bosworth. When open you can see really interesting old railway stations and working steam trains.
