A Walker's Guide to the Cromford Canal

It's ten years since the last edition of this useful booklet was published, and this new version brings the story of the canal's restoration up to date with plans for reinstating the length north from Langley Mill. Having said that, there's still a long way to go before the whole 14% mile canal is reopened to boats, but in the meantime the towpath is almost entirely intact and walkable - both on the northern length, which survives as a watered channel, nature reserve and tripboat route, and on the southern sections where much of the canal and its locks have been lost to opencast mining. The text describes the route to follow (including detailed directions for how to bypass the short missing lengths of path) along with plenty of information about canal history and local features, accompanied by archive photographs from the canal's working days, a general map of the whole route, and large scale Ordnance Survey based maps showing details of the sections where the path deviates from the canal route. There is also a brief history, information on visiting by public transport, and details of canal trusts, wildlife groups and other local organisations.
