With the results of the investigation into the reasons for last summer's failure at the Peak Forest Canal's Toddbrook Reservoir expected "within weeks", initial works aimed at putting the reservoir back into use are already under way. The dam's auxiliary spillway, intended to carry away surplus water after abnormal rainfall, suffered severe damage to its concrete surface while carrying out this function following a very heavy downpour, despite an independent inspector having given the reservoir a clean bill of health only months earlier. Both a Canal & River Trust study and an external investigation are expected to report shortly.
