CRT FEES 'FROZEN'

The Canal & River Trust has confirmed licence fees will not rise in 2019 - although almost 70 percent of boaters will see an increase as a result of the halving of the 10 percent prompt payment discount announced following the Boat Licence Consultation. A 12-month canals and rivers licence for a typical 57ft narrowboat will remain at £985.79, but from 1 April the discounted figure rises from E887.21 to £936.50. There will be further changes resulting from the review. From 1 April 2020, owners of craft wider than narrowboats face the first step of a phased raising of fees. For craft up to 3.24m (10ft 7 3/4in) there will two increases of 5 percent each; for those wider than 3.24m there will four such rises.
