摘要

At the same time as being committed to its new public wellbeing aims, the Canal & River Trust says it accepts that it needs the support of its boaters if it is to get the message across - and ultimately it will need to do so, otherwise boaters will suffer the consequences along with all other users. That was Head of Boating Jon Horsfall's message at a recent meeting with Canal Boat. Contrasting the Trust's licence fee increases with the Environment Agency's "self-defeating" steep rises (see left), he told us CRT didn't want to put "more onus on boaters" when it needs all the help it can get to make the case for public support once the current £50m per year Government contract ends in 2027. And "compelling stories about wellbeing" are key to those negotiations.
