It's an unfortunate fact that many cana restoration projects, past and present have found that their most difficult challenges are often located near the ends of their route. Look at the Wilts & Berks: of the four towns whose expansion has obstructed the canal, three (Melksham Abingdon and Cricklade) are near the extremities where it meets the Kennet & Avon Canal, Thames and the Thames & Severn Canal respectively.
