Thanks to companies like Samics Foods Inc., today's consumers can sample the world's cuisine literally without having to step outside―whenever they feel like it. While frozen entrees abound in countless grocery-store freezers, Mississauga, Ont.-based Samics Foods is clearly aiming to stretch the limits of conventional HMR (home meal replacement) preparation by introducing a line of freshly-prepared, whole meals in portions to serve two or more people. As vice-president of new technology Azim Karmali tells it, the entire mission of the 15,000-square-foot, 15-employee plant revolves around the goal of producing a high-end, premium HMR that hits the spot with today's rushed, overextended busy-bodies.
