摘要

Corruption has become a popular topic of everyday political discourse.nWhether we talk about democratization in Africa, post-communist tran-nsitions, Latin American presidencies, the Chinese economic miracle andneven top-level American politics, we can rarely stay away from the topicnof corruption. Has this been a recent fad or have people always beenndrawn to corruption scandals? A quick excursus into the recent historynof the study of corruption would show that the topic already attractednmuch attention from the scholarly community half a century ago. At thatntime, however, not everybody thought corruption was particularly evil, nespecially in developing countries ~Huntington, 1968; Leff, 1964; Nye,n1967!.
