Make It Happen!

This month's column is to be filled with the serious business of reporting on actions and decisions by the Board of Directors at their outgoing and incoming meetings at the time of the annual meeting in Brantford, Ontario in March. However, before I provide a summary of another busy round of meetings, a couple of things have happened in the last little while that have me enthused and I absolutely cannot resist the temptation to share them...... One relates to success - big-time success for the Jersey section of the Joint Classification Board's program!!!! In the last ten days, five -YES, FIVE Jersey herds in two provinces have been appraised for the first time in their history by the JCB team of appraisers!!! These herds are utilizing the option of the JCB's enrollment herd policy. One fascinating set of stats about these herds is that one is a herd that has converted from another breed within the last three to four years, three more are herds that contain cattle of two breeds, with Jerseys being relative newcomers in two of these herds!!
