ACEC applauds 2006 Federal Budget

Although infrastructure is not one of the Harper government's five stated priorities, the 2006 Federal Budget committed new and significant funding for highways and municipal infrastructure. With this budget, Finance Minister James Flaherty kept the Conservative parry's election promise to provide support to provincial and municipal governments in maintaining and upgrading their vital infrastructure. In his speech in the House, Mr. Flaherty actually said "investing in infrastructure — bridges, roads and transit — is a priority for this government." The fact that the new government considers infrastructure a priority is good news for the consulting engineering industry and for all those concerned with Canada's productivity and competitiveness.
