DirecTV re-initiates court action against alleged Hamilton TV signal pirate

U.S. direct-to-home (DTH) satellite TV provider DirecTV has filed a $10-million lawsuit in Ontario to shut down an allegedly recalcitrant pirate equipment provider. Besides cash, the DTH giant may also ask the court to seize homes and other assets to punish a Hamilton ON resident whom it says has repeatedly gone back on his word to stop selling hacking gear. The lawsuit was filed in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice against Elio Gino D'Amario and his associates. DirecTV believes it has a right to the defendants'homes because they were allegedly purchased with the proceeds of their illegal business. DirecTV is also looking for special damages, the particulars of which will be provided prior to trial, and wants another permanent order issued that would compel the co-conspirators to cease and desist from selling, marketing, offering to the public, distributing, providing, trafficking in, letting for hire, exposing or offering or licensing piracy technology.
