摘要

Over the past 15 years, CSCE has focused on promoting sustainable development and consequently improving the quality of life of all citizens, through innovative technologies, effective resource management, broader sharing of resources and considerably improved long-term environmental management. In effect, sustainable development in civil engineering represents a new way of thinking, planning, designing, maintaining and operating infrastructure facilities, with focus on energy efficiency and conservation, waste minimization and use of renewable resources. Engineers must adopt 3 R's (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) in all aspects of any project as an essential moral and professional responsibility, which can be achieved through detailed consideration of life-cycle performance and costs and significantly improved management of resources.
