As this Fall 2008 issue goes to press, the United States is in the midst of what many believe is the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, and the financial woes suffered in the U.S. are rapidly spreading throughout the global economy. Many of the articles in this issue are particularly germane as we think through fundamental changes in how businesses will operate going forward: they address the complex relationships among multinational corporations (MNCs), small companies, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs); they articulate ways in which growth and development of emerging economies can best be supported, a particular challenge in tough economic times; and they directly take on the sub-prime lending crisis in the U.S. with specific suggestions as to how the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) mortgage program might help with the crisis.
