During the period January - December 2013, six meetings of the Council of Calcutta Statistical Association were held. Prof. Malay Ghosh, the President of the Association, presided over the first, third and the sixth meetings, while Prof. R. Mukerjee, Prof. U. Bandopadhyay and Prof N. Mukhopadhyay respectively presided over the second, fourth and the fifth meetings. The first meeting was held on January 3, 2013 and in this meeting the members elected the office bearers of the Association for the year 2013. The Editorial Board of the Calcutta Statistical Association Bulletin was also formed for the year 2013. (The lists of office bearers and editorial board are given on the second page of this issue.) The members of the Council also took some decisions regarding administrative and financial matters of the Association. Three new life membership applications were considered and approved. The second meeting was held on May 29, 2013. The Secretary reported about the leave application of Sri Pravat Giri, a long time employee of the association who was terminally ill and discussed about immediate financial aid to Sri Giri for his treatment. A letter from Head, Department of Statistics, Asutosh College was considered for possible collaboration towards organizing a National Seminar on Advances in Statistics: Techniques and Applications in the 3rd week of December, 2013 and the council decided to extend all possible academic and technical supports apart from a financial support of Rs.20,000.00. Prof. R. Mukerjee reported about the appointment of Prof. Saibal Chattopad-hyay, a life member of CSA and an alumnus of Department of Statistics, Calcutta University as the Director of IIMC with effect from April 8, 2013 and the members extended their congratulations to Prof. Chattopadhyay on his achievement. In the third meeting few administrative and financial matters were discussed and a letter from IAPQR, Kolkata about holding a National Seminar on Advanced Survey Sampling at the end of the year to celebrate International Year of Statistics and to enable CSA to pay homage to one of its former Presidents Prof. P. K. Banerjee. It was also decided that a total makeover of the CSA room was necessary and the Treasurer would do the needful. In the fourth meeting few members from CSA were selected to represent CSA in the organizing committee of the National Seminar on Advanced Survey Sampling scheduled to be held at the auditorium of Presidency University on Dec 31, 2014. The Secretary reported about the demise of Sri Pravat Giri and it was decided that CSA would organize a condolence meeting in his memory. In the fifth meeting the decision regarding CSA bulletin was taken and it was also decided that Eighth Triennial Proceedings volume would be treated as the regular volume of CSA bulletin for the year 2013. The decision on Bose-Nandi award for the best paper published in the application section of CSA Bulletin for the year 2010 was reported and the paper was Baltic sea peracarids diurnal activity data: Issues on multiple imputation on over-dispersed Poisson regression model and model selection written by O. Harel, J. Liu and D. Dey. The last meeting of the Council was held on December 30, 2013 . In this meeting the members approved the Audited Accounts for the year April 2012 to March 2013 and forwarded it to the Annual General Meeting. In this meeting the members of the Council took some decisions regarding administrative matters and financial matters of the Association. The Council forwarded a panel of twenty four names that had been duly proposed for appointment as Directors of the Council for the year 2012 and the nomination of M/S A. Sanyal and Co., Chartered Accountant, 309, B. B. Ganguly Street, Kolkata - 700012 as the auditor of the Association for the financial year 2013-2014. The draft Annual Report of the Association for the year 2013 was placed by the Secretary before the meeting. After some discussions it was resolved that the draft Annual Report, incorporating suggestions of the members, be approved and forwarded to the Annual General Meeting. Two applications of life membership were considered and approved.
