Telcos Hype IPTV, Work Through Hurdles

(LAS VEGAS)—The Baby Bells continue to bang the drum for IPTV as the technology that will change the multichannel business, using the TELECOM-NEXT conference here Mar. 20-24 as a platform to trumpet a remade industry that has emerged from the turbulence of corporate culture shifts, landline uncertainty and infrastructure concerns. The enthusiasm, however, should not be allowed to mask the significant hurdles that remain for large-scale deployments of IPTV, most notably systems using the Microsoft platform.
