Despite reports of its demise, the U.S. manufacturing sector is holding its own. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the number of manufacturing companies is slightly up over last year, as is the number of manufacturing jobs.The U.S. produces 21 percent of the world's manufactured products. That's just six percent less than China and Japan combined. U.S. manufacturing produces 11.7 percent ($1.7 trillion) of the nation's GDP, and supports 17 million jobs in the U.S. But perhaps most important is the role manufacturing plays in the success of other sectors.
