INDIA RESETS FOR NEW GROWTH

At a U.S.-India sports and entertainment conference in New York last month, "Crossing Over: The Sports & Film Industries in the U.S. and India," the boyhood ambition of Vivek Ranadive added a compelling footnote. Ranadive is the principal owner of the NBA's Sacramento Kings, and a Mumbai native who in his youth dreamed of studying at MIT. Managing to gain admission at age 16 but bereft of funds, he convinced executives at the Reserve Bank of India to help cover his freshman-year tuition. Two MIT degrees and a Harvard MBA later, Ranadive was on his way to prominence as founder of Teknekron Software Systems, the company that's credited with digitizing Wall Street trading in the 1980s.
