Der Bereich des elektronischen Publizierens war in den letzten Jahren von der Entwicklung ausgereifter Desktop-Publishing-Werk-zeuge (DTP) geprägt, die einzelne Arbeitsschritte des Publikationsprozesses gut unterstützen. Eine informationstechnische Unterstützung des gesamten Publikationsprozesses selbst wurde jedoch bisher vernachlässigt. Für die Entwicklung und Produktion qualitativ hochweniger Publikationen ist es aber unabdingbar, Kontrolle über den gesam- ten Publikationsprozeß zu haben. Ein integriertes Dokumenten- und Workflowmana-gement-System stellt diese fehlende Unterstützung zur Verfügung. Der Einsatz eines solchen Systems garantiert, daß die Mitarbeiter bei der Entwicklung einer Publikation effizient kommunizieren können, die Integrität der Publikationsdaten gewährleistet wird, und der gesamte Publikationsprozeß kontrolliert und gesteuert werden kann.%Various advanced tools have been developed for supporting individual tasks in electronic publishing processes. However, tools efficiently supporting the publishing process itself are still missing. The development of high-quality publications requires full control of the publishing process as well as efficient communication between cooperating partners. An integrated document and work- flow management system supplies the missing link to support the electronic publishing process based on groupware technology. The application of such a system guarantees that people can communicate more efficiently, at the same time preserving the integrity of publication data, and fully controlling the publishing process.
