As voice over wireless LAN (VoWLAN) becomes more pervasive, it's expected that customers will want seamless handoff between a customer premises wireless LAN (WLAN) infrastructure and the cellular carrier network, so that users won't have to carry multiple handsets, each designed for location-specific operation. Now Motorola, Proxim and Avaya have partnered to bring to market the first dual-network (802.11 WLAN/GSM cellular) mobile handset that works as an extension behind an IP-PBX system. The Enterprise Seamless Mobility solution is designed to simplify business communications by using a single mobile device that can satisfy on- and off-premises communications requirements.
