Closing central bus stops for construction works can trigger questions about whether they should ever reopen. In Blackpool, the return of buses to St John's Square after a period of absence brought complaints about safety, followed by removal of all buses.While Edinburgh's Princes Street (picture below)was closed for construction of tram infrastructure, there were calls for the street to be dedicated to pedestrians, trams and bicycles, with buses permanently routed via parallel George Street. Buses returned to Princes Street.Part of Newport (South Wales) bus station was closed in February 2009 for rebuilding within the ￡200million Friars Walk development.
