Hamburg ditches 'unreliable' Van Hool XXL double-artics

Hochbahn, the Hamburg municipal operator, which pioneered the introduction of Van Hool 25m double-articulated buses six years ago, is to phase out the XXL-branded AGG300s following reliability problems. Hochbahn says all 26 of the DAF-engined buses will be retired by 201 6 as part of an accelerated replacement scheme to reduce maintenance costs. It is now looking to buy 19.5m Mercedes-Benz CapaCity artics. These four-axle two-section bendybuses can be configured for as many passengers as the Van Hools, which can carry between 45 and 59 seated passengers and up to 1 50 standees.
