George Vowles, early Bristol historian

George Vowles, founder member of the Bristol Interest Circle and first editor of The West Country Transport Bulletin, has died aged 93. He spent his early years in north Somerset and his earliest memories of buses were of riding with his mother to Clevedon, for shopping, on 1 925 20-seat Bristol 2tonners. In the early 1 930s, the family took on a farm in Lawrence Weston, near Avonmouth and Vowles and one of his brothers did some serious bus recording in nearby Sea Mills and on The Portway.
