While around Salzburg the hills may have been alive with the sound of music, the south Wales valleys were attuned to the sound of the buses operated by a quintet of urban district councils, one of which was Caerphilly. I have had always a soft spot for municipal bus operators, and those of the Welsh valleys have been particular favourites, probably because of a) their proximity to each other and b), their individuality. No two were alike, and in size ranged from the largest, Pontypridd UDC, to the smallest, Bedwas & Machen. Somewhere in the middle was Caerphilly, the subject of this 40th book in the publisher's Prestige series.
