Last year's articles in Buses on the 40th anniversary of the Leyland National made me reflect back to when I was chief engineer at Brighton Borough Transport from 1974 to 1982, where I was responsible for the specifying and purchasing the fleet. I first saw the Leyland National at the Commercial Motor Show and in October 1974 had 41-seat dual-door 10.3m demonstrator RRM 128M to try in service. This allowed me to have a close look at the new bus and make notes of its good and bad points.
