Rail replacement: a chance to show already committed public transport users the best of the bus industry, usually on a Sunday when there is enough spare. But instead usually a clapped-out old banger, even when the train and bus company are part of the same group. I recently had the misfortune to be a passenger in such an exercise. And yes, the train company thought that a 20-year old Leyland Tiger, driven by a very pleasant but poorly-briefed driver who had to cope alone at stations visited with badly managed parking and bewildered passengers, and reached its destination 25min late was okay.
