Regent name lives on in Torquay

Following on from my tales of the former Eastern Coach Works and Albion Motors plants in Lowestoft and Glasgow, here is another site of historic interest to bus folks: the former Devon General garage in Torquay. Stagecoach still occupies part of it with what it still needs for a modern running depot, but the main part, closed back in the early days after National Bus Company privatisation, has been redeveloped twice over and today rejoices in a delightfully appropriate name: Regent Close. The new building even is Regent House. For it was AEC double-deckers of that variety that graced the Devon General fleet from 1932 to 1980, adding greatly to its charm.
