First acquires Fal River Buses and opens Newquay base

First's expansion in Cornwall has taken another step with the acquisition of Fal River Buses - part of Cornwall Ferries - and its re-establishment of a base in Newquay from mid-February. Following Fal River's decision to cease operating buses, First has taken over its remaining activities, including a daily school contract to Truro School and the Enterprise Boats shuttle between Malpas and Truro, which runs from Easter to November as the two-hourly Falmouth river trips cannot reach Truro at low tide, when buses substitute. First has acquired three low-floor buses - two Dennis Tridents and a Dart - as part of the takeover deal. In May 2013, Fal River Buses took over the seasonal Falmouth park-&-ride from Western Greyhound and launched Truro city routes 326/327, replacing First's 83/84 in September. Falmouth locals 329/330 (Flushing-Truro) followed, partially replacing First's 400.
