The first pre-production Wright StreetDeck double-deckers, with Euro6 Mercedes-Benz OM934 engines, have gone into service with a variety of potential customers. The Arriva Sapphire-liveried demonstrator exhibited at Euro Bus Expo in November, with optional new front-end styling and glazed staircase, started operating on Arriva Midlands' Derby route 38 on 14 January. Four others with the 'classic' Wright front include two with glazed staircases for First, one in Sheffield with First South Yorkshire, the other with First Manchester. A silver-painted demonstrator with conventional panelled staircase was with Transdev Harrogate & District in late January (see p79) and Arriva London is evaluating a two-door London vehicle. The first production StreetDecks are 24 for Brighton & Hove in a special livery for the Coastal 12 Brighton-Eastbourne route. They will be long wheelbase models with 'classic' fronts and unglazed staircases.
