Second double-decker on trial in Adelaide

A second double-decker - the first imported example for an Australian city - entered trial service in Adelaide on 12 January. Franchisee Southlink is operating the tri-axle Scania K320UD with Malaysian-built Gemilang body on limited stop commuter route T840 connecting the city centre with Mount Barker via the South Eastern Freeway in the Adelaide Hills. The weekdays only route has a challenging mixture of hills and fast running. Like an Australian-built twin-steer BusTech being tested on the Adelaide airport service (Global News, January), this 85-seater is being evaluated on a route experiencing traffic growth, which in this case is exceeding the capacity of 47-seat 12m, 57-seat tri-axle 14.5m and 67-seat articulated 18m single-deckers.
