Readers may be forgiven for expecting the Scottish editor of Buses to welcome unconditionally any new book about the buses of his land, and especially if it covers a memorable decade of his youth. But the subject matter of this self-published book is the icing on the cake. Whatever topic it addressed, it would still provide an object lesson of what all bus books - especially colour picture albums covering more than one operator - could and should look like. A well-chosen selection of uniformly well-reproduced photographs, accompanied by informative-and well-written-text in themed chapters, all packaged to a high standard of graphic design with tickets, maps, brochures and extracts of timetables complementing the many and varied vehicles. We should expect no less from Stewart Brown. His work will be familiar to many over more than 40 years and his past books have included some equally attractive productions for Capital Transport, whose uncompromisingly high standards this one matches.
