SPRINT MUST SURPASS

There is some good news for supporters of bus rapid transit with Transport for West Midlands' announcement that it intends to have its first three Sprint lines operating in time for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and four others in action by 2026. This is all the more encouraging in a city region that also is investing in expanding its tram system. It clearly is not hung up on the attractions of one mode and recognises that there is a role for both to play in providing a quality alternative to private car use. And it appreciates that it can upgrade the public transport offering on more corridors more quickly by installing higher capacity buses on some of them, with the future possibility of upgrading the busiest of them to trams at in the more distant future.
