Trans-Pacific Geothermal Corp. (Oakland, CA), is one of several small California companies in the business of developing international energy projects. In 1996, Trans-Pacific was awarded the exclusive right to develop the El Hoyo-Monte Galan geothermal power plant in Nicaragua. That project required high-risk funding to overcome substantial hurdles, without which the project could not have advanced to its present status. This experience is shared by many small- to medium-size companies in California that are trying to enter international markets.
