摘要

Corrosion and erosion-corrosion damage of steel piping and other equipment in geothermal power plants is a common and expensive concern. The extensive amount of piping typically used in a plant represents a significant investment. In severely corrosive environments, the service life of a piping system may be less than five years, or in some cases, less than one year. A comprehensive approach to corrosion prevention and maintenance of piping includes appropriate materials selection, design details to avoid corrosion, use of strategies such as coatings and inhibitors, modification of fluid chemistry, monitoring and non-destructive testing (NDT), and repair. Recent technological developments in NDT, as well as integrity assessment and repair of corroded piping and how they can be applied to the geothermal industry, are considered in this review.
