GEA 2006 Priorities

The Geothermal Energy Association (GEA - Washington, DC) applauds Congress' efforts to expand use of the largely untapped domestic geothermal energy resource base. The Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPAct) took major strides towards promoting greater use of geothermal energy and diversifying the mix of energy in the United States. It included new geothermal tax incentives, leasing reforms, federal research direction and other measures. If effectively implemented and extended, the measures initiated by EPAct will unquestionably bring substantial new geothermal energy sources into use to meet national energy needs. In 2006, the GEA urges Congress to build upon EPAct and its achievements.
