In early March President Barack Obama announced his proposed budget for fiscal 2015, beginning next Oct. 1. For the U.S. Department of Energy he is asking for discretionary spending of $27.9 billion, a 2.6 percent increase from 2014. The budget includes $2.3 billion to promote efficiency and renewable energy such as solar, wind, geothermal and hydropower to further reduce U.S. dependence on fossil fuels. The proposed funding for geothermal energy is $62 Million a 20 percent increase on 2014 estimated spending.
