1. There is no alternative to the increasingly widespread use of laser scanning in the practice of calibrating various types of tanks due to: a. unprecedented increase in labor productivity; b. increased accuracy in determining their capacity; c. reduction in tank downtime; d. absence of the necessity to purify water, as when applying the volumetric method. 2. Only automated processing using special software based on strict mathematical methods gives reliable results for calculating the capacity of tanks and estimating their uncertainty from the results of scanning. 3. Software can make a significant contribution to the uncertainty of tank capacity calculations. This contribution is subject to evaluation based on the results of interlaboratory comparisons. 4. There is no other objective software testing method than comparing the results of capacity calculations obtained by different laboratories for the same 3D tank models. 5. The proposed interlaboratory comparisons are necessary for laboratories to identify not only errors embedded in a mathematical model of calculations and/or made in programming, but also to test the ability to correctly prepare a 3D model for calculations and correctly calculate the capacity of an existing program. The participation of laboratories in interlaboratory comparisons can be viewed as the process of validation of calculation methods and software.
