DEEP-SEA CORAL ECOSYSTEMS: BIOLOGY AND GEOLOGY PROCEEDINGS OF THE THIRD INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON DEEP-SEA CORALS

Deep-water and deep-sea coral ecosystems are globally distributed at depths between 100 and 900 m and their importance became clear with the publications of the first symposium on deep-sea corals, held in Halifax, Canada in 2000 (Watling and Risk, 2002, Willison et al., 2002). The second deep-sea coral symposium, held in Erlangen, Germany, expanded the interest on deep-water coral ecosystems, as evidence from the symposium proceedings (Freiwald and Roberts, 2005).
