THE 13TH IALA GENERAL ASSEMBLY

This 13th meeting of the General Assembly worked to a busy Agenda as it was the first time that its business was conducted during one single session, which was due to the implementation of new rules adopted by the Council in June 2016 as part of the General Regulations, a first step towards the IALA planned change of status. As a consequence, all National members had been invited to nominate their candidates for the Council election well in advance and all documents submitted by the Council for approval had been made available to the membership two months before the opening of the meeting. This enabled the Assembly to work in a speedy and more professional way. The meeting was chaired by Juan Francisco Rebollo of Spain, President of IALA for the period 2014-2018. The Secretary-General Francis Zachariae reported on the main activities at IALA since the last General Assembly held in 2014. He focused on the growing membership, the numerous guidance documents prepared by the Committees and approved by the Council, the recent refurbishment of the Headquarters and the progress made in the change of status project with two preparatory diplomatic conferences already held in 2016 and 2017. The Treasurer Ian McNaught reported on a healthy financial situation and on budget management over the past four years.
